Bears on the Mountain 2019
My thoughts of the weekend was one nervousness, due to not knowing what to expect from myself and the other bears at the event. But having someone there with you who has been to other events is not only comforting but it helps with the meet and greet and all of the other things that we got to do the rest of the weekend.
All of the activities from game night (meet & greet), Dinner and show ( which were fantastic) the theme was perfect for the weekend. Also the time we got to spend in the pool, hot tub, and sauna was great fun and for me it was a comfortable way to get to know more about some of my new friends. The venue ( The Golden Eagle in Stowe VT) was the perfect spot for the weekend. The staff was more than accommodating, the rooms were comfortable, and the food was delicious.
Lastly, I would like thank you for the invite, after I started to relax it was a very enjoyable weekend and one I will remember till the next time we get together.
I think the venue this year was great. It was definitely helpful to have the Golden Eagle Resort staff to help cater to us. Things in walking distance made it a lot easier as well. It was great to see old friends and make new ones. We would definitely do it again next year.
Some things to consider for next year:
I feel like a longer massage would be better. Game night was tough for us because it was definitely hard to hear when giving clues for celebrity taboo. I’d either not seat people so close to each other or leverage additional rooms. Like Jenna could be in the game room and the blocks could be set up on the pool table. Also we could get more games like “heads up”, or something which may be a little easier for people like me who’s not a walking IMDB and as old as others.
Movie night was fun and I think the PJs was relaxing. I would suggest maybe throwing out ideas for movies and have a majority vote on what to see. Other than that, everything else was amazing. Thanks again for putting the time and effort into organizing this. Without this gathering, I wouldn’t have met a great group of guys. Looking forward to next year as well.
This was an outstanding weekend, Gee, and it was everything you said it would be. Any of us that are living in rural New England know the difficulty of meeting quality men who are looking for more than a quick hook-up via an online site. You have given us an opportunity to come together with such a great group of men to explore the friendship that we are all craving. The opportunity to be ourselves for a weekend rather than a pic and profile on someone’s social media is a rare thing in 2019. Thank you for that and for allowing me to interact and get to know such a friendly group of men. I had never been to Stowe, VT before; it is a typical, quaint New England town. Small but with everything you would need for a weekend getaway. The Golden Eagle Resort was extremely attentive to our group and did what they could to correct any issues. I agree with you in that because everything we needed and actually did as a group was RIGHT THERE that it brought us closer together and gave us more of a chance to get to know each other. Sometimes a game night works out and sometimes it doesn’t. It may depend upon the game selection or the members at the table. But the bottom line is that it was our first opportunity to learn about each other, study and learn names via the name tags, and just relax into the weekend. I’m so glad that we had a massage therapist again this year. He worked his magic on me as I was constantly falling asleep because of his relaxing touch. Your show is always a highlight, and I enjoyed your theme and song selections featuring River, Mountain, and Woods. Movie night in our PJs was great fun too. And pool time — 30 bears in bathing suits with no attitude nor fear. Bliss. Bad thing about the weekend — having to go home. Thanks for the opportunity and the memories.
Once again, another great Bears4music weekend. This time in Stowe Vermont. Great location, great group of guys, great food and great entertainment. Who could ask for more?
Gordon goes all out to plan every detail flawlessly. From the great mix of fun guys hand-picked to attend, to the amazing talented musicians who gave us their best in a really nice resort with great food and an amazing staff who bent over backwards to make our stay memorable.
A shout out to the Golden Eagle Resort for such an amazing stay. The guest rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The Conference center and spa provided the perfect venue for the meet-n-greet, the pool party and the onesie movie and pizza party.
So many great memories of this weekend will be shared by all who attended. Everyone was made to feel welcome. Gordon has cultivated a loyal following of attendees who know how to make newcomers feel welcome. And the always successful mandatory game session at the meet-n-greet breaks the ice in a unique and fun way. By the end of the weekend, I may not have met or spoke to everyone but every time I go, I do get to know more new friends.
And the food! Wow. The Golden Eagle descended on the meet-n-greet with a appetizer spread fit for a room full of hungry bears. The breakfasts were amazing. Those blueberry pancakes with lemon curd was out of this world. The crab cake benedict was a crowd favorite and did not disappoint me either. And I have very high standards for crab cake benedicts. Lol.
And a great shout out to Shawn for keeping us all well hydrated all weekend. It was so nice to have a professional bartender and it can’t be easy to keep a roomful of bears with drinks in their paws.
Good weekend, mostly unstructured and no pressure on or from anybody; the resort and its staff were amazing, couldn’t ask for better service. The planned events went off without a hitch. Great weekend away.
First of all thank you so much for all the effort you put into making this weekend possible, I want you to know that I just loved the show, such talent and so professional, it has been awhile since I have seen live theater/music and did not realize how much I had missed it.
Gee as you know this was my first time attending your event in the 12 years you have had it, yes I came with friends and was feeling comfortable, but I was blown away by the way the attendees were all so very friendly and welcoming. I had such a great relaxing weekend where I could just be myself around like men. I did not try to hold in my belly once all weekend, very freeing, The private pool party was also very freeing for me, I was not shy about taking off my shirt. The show was so professional and fun, music I knew! Thanks for taking the time in making these weekend possible.
Big Bear Hugs;
I wanted to thank you again for all your help and hard work. It was an amazing experience. The only circumstances I would have is that there was too much down time. I spend a lot of time by myself and really enjoyed the times we were all more or less hanging out together like at breakfast and the scheduled events. Maybe group outings like shopping and visiting the town and restaurants during the day together would have been nice. I hope this makes sense to you lol. I’m really not good at expressing myself in an email format. I always feel like I don’t fit in and this weekend I actually felt like I kinda did. I definitely want to spend more time with my peers. I would love to do it again. If you have any further questions or concerns please let me know. You are an amazing performer and kind people.
I have been attending Gee’s events for many years and always look forward to them.
This year was a really special weekend in Stowe, VT. I hung out with old friends and made new friends. Gee always makes sure that everyone is having a good time. It was especially a good time because we were really lucky to stay at a lodge that had a super attentive staff to accommodate all of our needs. Not only were all the bears like family but the lodge staff felt like family too. It’s a no pressure weekend and I have made lifelong friends through these weekend events.
Favorite parts of the weekend are laughing and joking with the guys, doing things together such as sitting by the fire outside, swimming in an indoor pool and laughing with the guys in the hot tub. A biggest part of the weekend is dinner and a show put together by Gee and some of his very talented friends who have the most incredible singing voices. It is such a treat for me…….I look forward to next year’s bears event.
I was a little apprehensive about signing up for a bear 3 day weekend and I figured if it wasn’t for me I could just leave and drive home. I chose the option of a roommate and I’m glad I did. We had some great conversations .Gee was right on about this being a relaxed no pressure event. Pizza, movies and cocktails in onesy or loungewear..talk about laid back! Will definitely be back next year!!!
To my surprise the event was an eye opener; not what I had expected. On a whole, the group was easy to get along with; cultural differences and age was never an issue. Met some wonderful new friends, I hope to meet on my next visit. Gordon Michaels was the perfect host, engaging with everyone insuring that no one was felt left out.
I would encourage anyone thinking about joining this group in the near future you will not be disappointed.
Your new member
Good Morning Gee,
I just wanted to take a moment out to thank you for having this yearly event. I had such a great time seeing people I have met in previous years as well as making new friends this year. As always, the event held true to its mission statement and I didn’t feel as timid as I normally would during [larger] social events. Everyone was so friendly that I was able to be more open and was able to socially interact with those who attended. I recommend other cubs (like myself) to take a moment to be open minded in attending these social gathering events that Gee puts together as you will get to meet new friends and making lasting friendships. Thank you again Gee.
The weekend was the most amazing time I’ve had in a long time. The Concert, Music Companionship and being with friends were all so moving. The venue was TOP NOTCH. The staff went above and beyond to make it the best time ever for all of us. I enjoyed this event so much. Hoping next year is as AMAZING and more people join us.
What a great weekend! The Golden Eagle took real good care of us. This was the first time I’ve heard Javelle sing. What a voice! And Gordon and Jimmy were as wonderful as ever. I really appreciated the easy schedule with plenty of hangin’ out time. The swimming pool was an unexpected treat. Stowe is really pretty too. Thanks, Gee. Great time and really reasonable price.
Hi Gee, I’m fighting back tears right now!!! If you had not reached out to me I would have never been able to be there. It’s almost overwhelming how much I realized that I didn’t have any place to feel I belonged and no other gay men to talk and relate to. I can’t put into words how deeply this whole weekend and your coaxing me to come along means to me. I have never been treated with such love and acceptance anywhere in my life but know how grateful I am to have been included. I never saw so many welcoming new friends anywhere in my life. I really want to open the new year with you guys. I am happy that there is a plan to see ya’ll again in the near future!!!!
Yours, (Marvins buddy), James
It was my first time at one of these events, and I would like to say it was amazing. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but once I arrived everyone made me feel very welcome. I have made some new friends that I will hopefully be able to get together with outside of the group. Gordon was an excellent host, and I highly recommend anyone who has not had a chance to do something like this, to go ahead and do it. You will not be disappointed and you will meet quality people that will become friends for life.
My reflection for bears on the mountain weekend was… I was a bit hesitant knowing i would be the youngest one there, but overall the weekend was a blast. So nice to meet men of all ages and backgrounds. A really nice way to get people together. The hotel was really great. The staff was amazing! Overall i had a fantastic time.
I had a great time, impressed with quality of the Golden Eagle and its staff and food..You know you and i think alike about getting a mens group together without the premise of being a “sexual” event..I felt warm and welcomed, and finally comfortable enough in a group to come out of my shell and socialize..For many years ive wished for such events, and im proud to have been a part of Bears On The Mountain 2019..I had no idea of the group or the weekend event but this came to me with very short notice and a welcomed gift from my friend George, celebrating my 1st year of sobriety..It was great to escape and relax, reflect and celebrate..Altho our weekend was cut short by an unexpected illness of George’ mom I left Stowe with a warm heart and looking forward to becoming a part of the group..I did speak with a few members but I met one in particular that shared the same knowledge as i have, that being our love of being car guys and talking tech a few times. Thank you Lee ! The show was great also, all three performers definitely talented vocally and hats off to you all..Jimmy’s rendition of John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High” brought tears to my eyes, reminiscent of watching his show as a child with my late parents. Javelle’s performances were incredible with his vocal range, fun personality, and soul put into “A Change Is Gonna Come” and you Sir have my thanks for not only your performance but for putting together an event that has changed my opinion on socializing with other men in a public event..I look forward to future events, and having more time to socialize..Thank you to everyone for making this introverted auto mechanic feel comfortable and confident enough to socialize..Peace to you all !
As I indicated earlier, this was a wonderful event with a very affable group none of whom I really knew previously and all of whom seemed to enjoy. The setting in Stowe for me was perfect as I have been there many previous times for skiing over the years but had not been there in the past 5 years and then 7 years before then. It brought back a flood of many memories and surprised me with the massive changes on the mountain, especially Spruce Peak, and some additions to the town’s services. I had even stayed at the Golden Eagle 3 previous times under previous ownership and liked it then as well and the location. This new management seems very accommodating and has a real can do attitude which was great for the group. The food and room were fine and the convenience of everything together in one compact package was a real plus.
As for the entertainment, the music was great. I liked the whole program but my favorites and for very personal reasons were Cry Me a River, Stand By Me, and Moon River, each really performed at a very high level.
Given a repeat and especially with the location of beautiful Stowe and the timing just preceding the ski rush, I would definitely be interested in a reprise.
Thanks for all your efforts and those of your team. As Jackie Gleason so poignantly opined “Thanks for the Memories.”
Gee, I enjoyed the weekend very much, and look forward to next year. You out did yourself this year and I hope you will continue to do this event. I’m seriously considering N Y E, but that depends on a few things. Once again a HUGE THANK YOU!!!!
Bears on the Mountain was an excellent weekend. I attend these events for 2 reasons; (1) my husband really likes bears and (2) I am on a journey to accept all body types & dwell more on the individual personality. Bears tend to have no attitude & most are very caring and accepting men so I really appreciated the atmosphere of this group. I always meet some very genuine men & with each weekend ,I get to know the regular attendees better, which is very good.
Specifically regarding the Bears on the Mountain event, I thought the staff was amazing—very helpful & totally and genuinely accepting of our group. As far as food goes, I eat for sustenance & nutrition so it didn’t bother me that the food wasn’t hot or particularly tasty. I know it can be difficult to present 25 or so hot meals all at once.
The Golden Eagle Resort had a great pool & hot tub and a large gathering place. The private pool party was a great idea. If larger signs had been posted on entry doors, it would have been more obvious to non-event people that the pool was not available to them. Maybe the word “CLOSED” in big red letters followed by “private party” and then the hours would have worked better.
The organized group activities and the free time were all appreciated. I would like to continue to attend these events because I really like the companionship of all the men. Big thanks to all who made it possible, especially to Gee !!
I just had to tell you Thank you from the Bottom of my heart, I had an amazing time with you and your Bears On The Mountain Group. The games , the food, the wonderful Bears I met and the beverages including the wine tasting was just perfect.
To see yourself and Jimmy Page and Javelle Stephens and Michael Larson on key board was spectacular. Fun and up lifting and your commentary you all did just wonderful. I had so much fun I could not be a bitch about the snow. It was my first event with your Bear Group, but walked away with making a new friend and look forward to partaking in the next event.
I feel truly blessed to have been around a great group of Men.
Please keep me on your e-mail list and thank you for your gracious hospitality and to Shawn omg had me in stitches. And for helping me open my mind to allowing other people to touch my life in a positive way.
Good morning Gee,
As I reflect on our Bears in the Mountain weekend, I wanted to let you know that I had a fantastic time. It was great to see old friends as well as making new ones. The place in Stowe, VT The Golden Eagle was the perfect venue. I am so glad you brought it back to NE. The food, music, fun and friendships that I have made will be with me forever. Me and my husband look forward to this event year after year!! I am so glad I am part of an amazing group of men!!
I had a great weekend! Thank you for running it. It’s been a busy year for me, so to be able to get away and just unwind with other men was what I needed. And I am already looking forward to next year. This is the third weekend event I’ve been to of yours, and it seems to get easier to meeting new faces that join or whom I haven’t met yet. I guess my only critique of it all was that I found my meal Saturday night to be a bit on the bland side. The performances were great! Please send my thanks to everyone involved, as well as Shawn and Scott for their involvement too.
I enjoyed the week end very much, and look forward to next year. You out did yourself this year and I hope you will continue to do this event. I’m seriously considering N Y E, but that depends on a few things. Once again a HUGE THANK YOU!!!!
Bears By the River: New Hope 2018
Bears By the Sea 10th Anniversary 2017
I enjoyed the whole weekend. I like the games with the teams and met some great guys that I would have never met any other way. It was just like last year, only with more bears.
